Determination of the Efficacy of Self-Esteem and Decision-Making Styles in Acquiring Emotional Autonomy in Young

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of self-esteem in decision-making and decisionmaking styles on emotional autonomy dimensions in young. Participants were in the age range of 16-24 years living in Istanbul, 202 girls (55.2%) and 164 males (44.8%), total 366 students. The average age of participants is 19.07 ± 2.49 years. Of these, 157 are high school students (42.9%), 46 are associate students (12.6%) and 163 are undergraduate students (44.5%). For the analysis of the data, “Emotional Autonomy Scale” and “Melbourne Decision Making Scale I-II” were used. Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyzes were used for statistical analysis. According to the results of the research, self-esteem in decision-making, vigilance and hypervigilange decision-making styles predicted subscale dimensions of emotional autonomy. In addition, the influence of decision-making styles on the sub-dimensions of emotional autonomy changes during middle and late adolescence.
