Abstract
This research focuses on the communication environment and relationships in the epic story of Dirse Han’s son Boğaç Han, which is in the book of Dede Korkut. Relations and communications in the story are being analyzed with the method based on the concepts of transactional analysis. As a result of analyses, in the analysis of the story in terms of transactional analysis it was found out that adult ego state had dominant rate in communication. It is seen that parental ego state is utilized when necessary, but child ego state is used less. In the relations that takes place in the story, the reality of adult ego state’s being prefered make us think that proceeding the communication by avoiding conflict is given importance. The relations between couples and the situations in which the women are the source, are found suitable for the criteria of healthy communication in terms of transactional analysis. Cross transactions are seen in the relations among men. This can be explained as struggle for power accompanying the states of communication. In these relations, it could be considered that the reason of cross transaction stems from status difference in addition to struggle for power. The findings obtained reveal that Turkish culture structure bears healthy communication atmosphere instead of the allegations of its bearing communication conflict. The examination of the book Dede Korkut with the methods and techniques of different social science fields strengthens the hypothesis revealing the richness in the Turkish culture structure could be exposed.
